The Founders

Since her early years, Nayla admired the cut of her grandfather's burnous – a sheep wool cape he proudly wore for every outing, exuding elegance and symbolizing his masculine dignity. To Nayla, this cape represented a declaration of refinement and cultural heritage. As she draped the burnous over her
shoulders, she felt its timeless charm and the rich history it carried. Despite occasional mockery for wearing it at home and outdoors, being told the burnous was for men, Nayla pondered, "Why not offer burnous for women?"

As she grew older, this idea matured in her mind, especially after researching the symbolic and societal meanings of the burnous. There are countless ways to interpret the burnous through materials, colors, and styles, but its inherent timeless elegance remains intact. In parallel with her studies in management, Nayla founded Burnous in 2019, driven by her love for fabrics, sewing, and fashion. The name was chosen to reflect the symbolic values of the burnous: respect, nobility, celebration, and adaptability.

In 2023, Dina joined Nayla, sharing the same vision for fashion and style. Despite her financial background, Dina was captivated by her love for fashion design and joined the Burnous adventure that had begun in Algiers. With passion, they developed the brand between Algiers and Annaba, gaining increasing popularity.

Having lived and studied abroad for many years, both women retained their love for their home country and its magnificent traditions. Today, Burnous establishes itself in the UAE, bringing its unique Berber touch.

Burnous is a manifestation of their love for fashion, traditions, and refinement. It pays homage to the splendid North African culture of their elders, as well as the diverse cultures encountered during their travels around the world. The patterns and embroideries draw inspiration from their identity, while the modern cuts demonstrate their ability to embrace the ever-evolving dynamics of the fashion world.

“Our brand brings to life pieces inspired by symbols and traditions, designed for every season and occasion, embodying a seamless fusion of tradition and modernity in each item within our collections”
